CRC Rehabilitation Association Master Programs

The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) prepares individuals to become professional rehabilitation counselors and is found within master's and doctorate degree programs among colleges and universities. Rehabilitation counselors provide counseling and guidance to individuals with disabilities. The certification includes 600 clock hours of a supervised internship and graduates must complete the CRC examination. The CRCC is the largest rehabilitation counseling organization in the world, with over 16,000 current certificants, many of whom reside in the United States and have completed a master's degree.

    • Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York focuses on providing classes with real world application in areas such as education, business, broadcasting, engineering and psychology. Faculty members, 91 percent of whom hold the highest degrees in their fields, consist of professors who were Pulitzer Prize and Fulbright winners in addition to Guggenheim Fellowships recipients. The School of Educational, Health and Human Services offers the M.S.Ed. (master of science in education) degree in rehabilitation counseling, which prepares students for the CRC certification examination. It is comprised of 48 credits with two semesters of internship in a public, private or voluntary rehabilitation agency, totaling 600 hours. The program may be completed in two years as a full-time student, part-time or with an acceleration option.

    Ohio University

    • Ohio University is the oldest public institute of higher learning in Ohio and has been ranked first in the amount of student competitive awards earned by its students. The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education and Human Services within the university is the home of the first kindergarten and public teacher preparation program in Ohio. The M.Ed. (master of education) degree program in rehabilitation counseling prepares students for the CRC certification exam and provides the opportunity for students to complete more than the clinical coursework required for the exam. Coursework includes rehabilitation subjects like psychosocial aspects of disability, medical issues and career development. Non-rehabilitation classes include theory and techniques, research methodology and group counseling.

    The University of Arizona

    • The University of Arizona (UA) has been ranked within the top 20 public universities for research by the National Science Foundation. The institution generates over $530 million in research annually, giving $2 million to the state. UA's College of Education is the home to the only rehabilitation programs in the state to prepare students to become counselors and educators in the field. The M.A. (master of arts) program in rehabilitation counseling prepares students for the CRC examination for national certification in order to increase the number of professionals employed in public and private rehabilitation agencies and institutions. The program is held within the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies, which is ranked fifth in the nation for programs in rehabilitation counseling by U.S News and World Report in 2007.
