The University of Oklahoma College of Nursing (OUCN) offers the only nurse practitioner program in the state and was one of the three schools recognized as a Center of Excellence by the National League of Nursing from 2006 to 2009. According to the school's website, students have maintained passing rate of 89.6 percent on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is needed for entry-level nursing practice. The nurse practitioner program awards a post masters certificate or master's degree with concentration options in family, pediatric, adult or neonatal nursing. NP students are required to be computer literate, as they use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and Internet or other Web activities during classes and clinical labs. Track options are between 35 to 50 credit hours and 720 to 840 clinical hours with part-time and full-time curriculum's.

Southern Nazarene University (SNU) is a private, Christian, liberal arts university with a global focus. The school maintains a Swaziland Partnership with the Swaziland Church of the Nazarene and Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with the mission of preventing HIV and AIDS through spiritual and educational resources in Swaziland. In addition, alumni from the school have served as missionaries in over 13 countries throughout the world. SNU's Accelerated Master of Science (MS) in Nursing program offers two tracks for RN's in nursing education and nursing leadership. They consist of 18 credits of core classes, 15 credits of specialty coursework and a six-credit capstone in which students complete a thesis research project. Each course is six weeks long with lectures in addition to group and individual projects.

Oklahoma City University (OCU) was ranked within the top 25 best graduate universities in the western region of the state by U.S. News and World Report in 2010. It is a private institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church and maintains a diverse campus, with students from 46 states and 49 countries. The Kramer School of Nursing (KSN) at OCU offers the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with three options including the nursing education track, nursing administration track or the RN to MSN option. The RN to MSN option would be ideal for the future nursing practitioner, as it is designed for RN's in a bachelor's degree program to complete an extra year of coursework at the master's level to obtain both degrees. The school accepts all applicants that meet the admission and eligibility requirements, due to the worldwide shortage of nurses with graduate degrees. According to the school's website, KSN graduates have maintained a 95 percnt passing average on the NCLEX-RN, compared the 87 percnt national average.
