Hinds Community College, the largest school of its kind in Mississippi, has been operating since 1917 and offers two phlebotomy programs through its Nursing/Allied Health Center. The phlebotomy fast-track option takes 80 hours, with 40 dedicated to laboratory time and lectures and the remaining half spent gaining clinical experience. The class meets once a week and requires six months of experience in a health field. The general phlebotomy course takes 160 hours to teach students how to take blood and does not require previous experience.

Located in Moorhead, Mississippi, Delta Community College offers a phlebotomy program to provide "quality instruction in the theoretical background and manual skills for accurate blood collection techniques," according to the school website. The course teaches students to take, handle and analyze blood samples through classroom instruction and real-world experience. The semester long program provides 17 weeks of lecture and 120 hours of clinical practice at one of four area hospitals. To apply, applicants must be able to provide a Healthcare Criminal History Background Affidavit signed by a notary public.

The University of Southern Mississippi, known as Ole Miss, offers a two-phase phlebotomy program through its Medical Technology Department. The first half of the program is presented through a series of online lessons and lectures with supporting materials. To conclude the course, students take part in a clinical rotation to get hands-on phlebotomy experience and receive a certificate after completing the program. To apply for the program, students must participate in an interview with the school and submit to a background check.
