The Society of Actuaries awards doctoral stipends to increase the number of students pursuing Ph.d's in actuary programs with the intent of pursuing an academic career upon their graduation. Candidates' research projects should indicate areas that need further research and education in actuarial science. The grant is open to full-time students enrolled in a doctoral program. In addition to providing doctoral stipends, the society also solicits individual grant proposals that will be provided in partnership with the Actuarial Foundation's (TAF) AERF Committee, the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the Society of Actuaries' (SOA) Committee on Knowledge Extension Research (CKER). The grant is open to independent researchers, academics or a team of practitioners. The research project must contribute toward the understanding of actuarial science. Findings from the research should be submitted in the form of a manuscript for publication.
