The Cancer Research Institute provides fellowship support to postdoctoral students through the Irvington Institute Fellowship Program. A fellow receives $45,000 for the first year of the fellowship, $47,00 in the second year, and $49,000 in the third. A fellow also receives an annual allowance of $1,500 to help pay for travel and supplies. To be eligible, a candidate must be conducting immunology research, must have no more than five years of relevant postdoctoral experience, and must be conducting research at a non-profit institution. The annual deadlines for application are April 1 and October 1.

Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships are available to postdoctoral candidates in a number of different fields, including the social sciences, humanities, mathematics, engineering, and physical and life sciences. Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded for one year, and provide an annual grant of $40,000. To be eligible, an applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and must be committed to a teaching career at the postsecondary level. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of academic achievement, and to candidates who belong to underrepresented ethnic and racial minority groups. The annual deadline for application is November 11.

Kirschstein National Research Service Awards for Individual Postdoctoral Fellows. Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Fellows receive monthly cost of living stipends, and also receive an allowance for necessary expenses such as travel, health insurance, research supplies and equipment, and books. To be eligible, a person must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and must have received a doctoral degree. Award amounts vary. Ruth L. Kirschstein Fellowships may provide support for up to three years.
