Technology Research Grants

Jobs in technology fields such as computer science are expected to grow faster than average until 2018 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Students at the undergraduate and graduate level in technology fields have opportunities to receive funding to further their academic interests and gain research experience. Private foundations and government agencies are among the organizations that fund student research with grant programs.
  1. Winston Churchill Foundation Scholars

    • The Winston Churchill Foundation funds study and research for college seniors or recent graduates at the University of Cambridge in England for up to one year. Eligibility requirements include United States citizenship or legal residency, graduation from a participating school and being age 19 to 26. Approximately 100 colleges and universities participate in the foundation’s program. Churchill Scholar selection is based on academic talent and a demonstration of commitment to original work in areas such as computer science and other areas in engineering and mathematics. The foundation disseminates at least 14 awards per year and may include an extra grant of up to $2,000 to cover research-related expenses and travel.

    AT&T Labs Summer Fellowships for Women and Minorities

    • Women and minority doctoral students have the opportunity to conduct research under the guidance of teams at AT&T Labs. Students are partnered with a mentor and spend 10 weeks during the summer working on a research project. The program lasts for three years and provides funds for tuition and fees during the academic year, summer research and study expenses, and support for attending conferences. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents and enrolled or planning to enroll in a Ph.D. program.

    NIST Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

    • The National Institute of Standards and Technology funds a technology research program for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing careers in science and engineering. The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship gives students the opportunity to conduct research at NIST laboratories alongside renowned scientists and gives them access to cutting-edge labs. Students receive a stipend of $8,000 for their summer research. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship or legal residency and enrollment in a science-related degree program.
