With a wide-array of classes required, such as pharmacology and mental health, different textbooks are required for a nursing student. Some textbooks are only used for one or two classes while some such as a medical dictionary are used throughout a nursing degree program.
Generally, a nursing program requires each student to own a lab coat, school patch, a watch with a second hand used for taking blood pressure, a name tag, and authorized shoes. Some programs require nursing students wear collared shirts and that all tattoos be covered, so additional clothing may be required.
If you are taking online courses in a nursing degree program or if the program requires students to submit research and presentations, a computer and internet is a necessity as a nursing student.
During any clinical portions of a nursing degree program, a nursing student is required to have all vaccinations up-to-date as well as have health insurance. Health insurance can typically be purchased through the nursing school if the student does not have his own. An up-to-date CPR certification typically is required as well.
