Dental Supplies for Students

Students enrolled in programs related to the dental field are required to use tools and supplies for their course of study. Every college or trade school identifies specific items students need, and most D.D.S. program fees cover the cost of materials and supplies for students. There are standard supplies that any student in a dentistry-related program should have, though students are advised not to make purchases before receiving supply lists.
  1. Protective Gear

    • Students must take precautionary measures to protect themselves and patients during their practice work. Protective goggles and gloves are required, and maintaining an adequate supply is typically each student's responsibility.

    Clinical Attire

    • Students in dentistry programs are often required to wear scrubs. This type of attire has outgrown its uniform look, with styles available in colorful prints and flattering cuts. Dental students are also required to wear lab coats. While some programs provide coats as part of an incoming student kit, dental students should consider purchasing extras as backups. Disposable lab coats are readily available through dental supply stores, as are traditional wash and wear versions.

    Hygiene Instruments

    • Hygiene instrument kits for dental students include mirrors, explorers, probes, scalers, pliers and curettes. These kits are ideal for dental hygienist students and D.D.S. candidates.

    Burs

    • Dental burs are specialized bits used on dental drills. Students purchase burs to practice techniques in drilling, shaping and polishing.
