The Oklahoma City University campus in Oklahoma City is the home of the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management. Both bachelor and masters degrees in dance are offered. The school is centered in the Edith Kinney Gaylord Center. which has eight dance studios, men's and women's showers and locker rooms, and a student lounge. Its dance performance degree develops students to become professional dancers, and focuses on tap, jazz, theater dance and ballet. The dance management degree develops dancers as well as managers for the entertainment industry. The school has developed so many dancers who joined the Rockettes it has its own Rockettes Hall of Fame.
The Dance Division of the Julliard school in New York City has a four-year undergraduate program that leads to a bachelor of fine arts degree with liberal arts requirements. The four-year program includes earning 24 credits in the school's Liberal Arts department. To be accepted, a potential student must first pass a rigorous audition process. Students receive artistic training in everything from classical ballet to modern dance. Guest choreographers and teaching artists regularly appear to help instruct the students. In addition to dancers, Julliard is known for also producing successful choreographers. The school has its own residency hall and draws many students from abroad.
San Jose State University in California has a school of music and dance that offers a bachelor of arts degree in dance. The school offers training to students who are interested in a professional career in either dance performance or choreography. Students can also audition for its bachelor of fine arts program that offers the opportunity to specialize in either modern or jazz to go along with extra training in ballet and tap. All the professors have professional backgrounds in performance and choreography. Additional features at the school include a professional dance company on campus and two resident performing companies for students. Four levels of modern, jazz and ballet are offered each year. The school of dance provides part-time job opportunities for students. The university itself has 50 major buildings that include seven residency halls.
Northwestern University in Illinois has a school of communication that allows students to major in dance. Undergraduates study composition and choreography while receiving professional training in dance skills and performance opportunities. The emphasis of its dance program is contemporary modern dance along with ballet and tap. Members of the staff are professional dancers and choreographers along with researchers and scholars in the field of dance. Guest artists make appearances to help with the instruction. Northwestern, which is a member of the Big 10 athletic conference, is a major private university with an enrollment of nearly 18,000 consisting of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional students.
