Georgia Dance Colleges

Many of the universities and colleges in Georgia offer degrees in dance. Aspiring dancers can study dance in undergraduate programs that will prepare them for a career in professional dance. Students will not only receive their education in dance, but also a liberal arts education that will provide them with a well-rounded experience.
  1. Agnes Scott College

    • Agnes Scott College is a private liberal arts college for women in Decatur, Georgia. The undergraduate dance program at the school focuses on receiving physical enjoyment from dance, but also a scholarly understanding of the history of dance and the sociological impact of dance. Students in the Agnes Scott College undergraduate dance program will perform historic and contemporary works in the Studio Dance Theatre, the college's student ensemble. Students also receive internships that feature assistant teaching, office work and studio supervision. Students receive a liberal arts education along with their dance education.

    Emory University

    • Emory University in Atlanta is one of the world's leading research universities. The school features a Dance and Movement Studies undergraduate program in the College of Arts and Sciences. The program's goal is to provide a curriculum that interweaves both the practical and theoretical to help students obtain creative, intellectual and communicative skills in the world of dance. The focus in the program is on performance and choreography. Students also study the history of dance. The Emory Dance Company gives students the chance to perform work choreographed by professional dancers and their fellow students.

    University of Georgia

    • The University of Georgia is the state's oldest institutions of higher education. The university in Athens offers two undergraduate dance programs. Students can receive a bachelor's of arts in dance or a bachelor's of fine arts in dance. The BA in dance focuses on dance study mixed with a liberal arts education, and the BFA in dance helps students prepare for a professional dance career. Students can experience internships in teaching dance throughout the state of Georgia.

    Valdosta State University

    • Valdosta State University in Valdosta has more than 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university focuses on academic, cultural and social aspects of a major university, but with smaller class sizes. The school offers a bachelor's of fine arts in dance. Students learn technique and theories in dance as well as experience lecture and lab courses. Different courses in dance are available in this program as well as a liberal arts education focusing on communications and the theater. Internships and a dance club are available to students.
