List of Hotel Management Universities

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers in the hotel industry more commonly learn from on-the-job skills than formal education.   1. Cornell University

    • The Cornell School of Hotel Administration within Cornell University houses undergraduate and graduate programs in the field. The first school in the country to provide an undergraduate degree in hospitality management, Cornell's School of Hotel Administration calls itself the world's "most sophisticated service-oriented management school," and its enrollment consistently includes current professionals in the field from all over the world. Leading industry professionals are also brought in for lectures and student conferences, and the school is frequently used as a recruitment pool for some of the leading hotel chains. Job experience and training are also provided at the Statler Hotel, the 153-room hotel located on campus.

    University of Nevada, Las Vegas

    • The William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at UNLV is located less than 3 miles from the Las Vegas strip, exposing students to many hotels, casinos and restaurants which provide an excellent environment for executing the principles learned in the classroom. The Harrah Hotel College has partnered with these and other major companies, from Ritz Carlton to Walt Disney World, in order to offer student internships. A bachelor's degree in hotel administration is offered, with five different options of majors, as well as in culinary arts management and gaming management. A number of graduate degrees and undergraduate minors are also offered.

    Penn State University

    • Penn State University's School of Hospitality Management boasts nearly a 100 percent employment rate for graduates, owed partially to the fact that more than 100 companies visit Penn State annually, recruiting students from the school's programs. One of the nation's oldest programs in the field, the Penn State School of Hospitality Management requires students to earn 1,000 hours of real-life work experience. Internships are established at its on-campus hotel, the Nittany Lion Inn, as well as with other local hospitality businesses. Studies at the undergraduate level can be focused in hotel, restaurant and institutional management or management dietetics, and master's and doctoral degrees are available as well.

    University of Houston

    • The Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management was the first hospitality program in Texas and has grown to be a leader in the field. The on-campus Hilton is the primary location for students to gain real-life experience; its 86 guest rooms plus meeting rooms, ballrooms and restaurants provide students with plenty of opportunity to exercise their classroom education. The college offers a bachelor's of science in hotel and restaurant management with at least 600 hours of work experience in the field, a master's of science in hospitality management and a joint M.S./M.B.A. option in cooperation with the University of Houston's C.T. Bauer College of Business.

    University of Denver

    • The Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management at the University of Denver is housed within the Daniels College of Business. Available courses of study are a bachelor of science in business administration in hospitality management, with three choices of concentrations, and a tourism minor. KSHM requires 1,000 work hours in the field of study before graduation. Students can gain experience off-campus from the opportunities in Denver or directly on campus from activities such as coordinating KSHM's major conference events. One-hundred percent job placement is achieved among students who actively search.
