Paris, France, is home to some famous sites, among them the Eiffel Tower, a popular tourist attraction and romantic backdrop. Paris also boasts a number of fine universities that offer a variety of challenging degree programs.       The American University of Paris was founded as a liberal arts college in 1962. Today, the school is a diverse international university. The American University of Paris welcomes students from an array of backgrounds, including students of various nationalities and those who have had exposure to languages other than English. Based on the school’s mission, outlined on its website, graduates of the American University of Paris learn strong communication skills and apply critical thinking skills to a variety of topics, including history, society, politics, business and the arts. Students are equipped “to develop creative interdisciplinary approaches to important contemporary challenges, to be both technologically and culturally literate in a world of swift-paced change ... to understand the ethical imperatives of living in such a world.” The American University of Paris boasts students and faculty of 100 different nationalities, nine graduate programs, 17 undergraduate programs and 33 minors. Study abroad opportunities are offered in the United States and around the world. Classes are instructed in the English language.

    College de France

    • The College de France, which places a high value on faculty research, has as its mission a dedication “to promote French research and ideas abroad, and to participate in debate on major world issues,” according to the Madrasi website. The college prides itself on its freedom of research and, to keep innovative ideas flowing from the college, the College de France is organized by chairpersons in an array of academic disciplines, from mathematics to philosophy. Chairpersons change frequently. As the College de France describes on its website, “a mathematician may succeed an historian ... or a linguist an economist. No university rank is required of the person who is put forward; all that counts is the importance and originality of his or her work.” The College de France is therefore able to exercise freedom in the teaching and research activities done by professors and other members of the faculty. The libraries at the College de France are home to a collection of rare books, and the libraries themselves attract a number of foreign researchers.

    Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Paris

    • The Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Paris, an international business school founded in 1819, has five campuses throughout Europe, one of which is in Paris, France. The Paris campus is home to six research centers, 55 classrooms, a library, a restaurant, a cafeteria and a gymnasium. According to the Madrasi website, ESCP admits approximately 4,000 students to its Paris campus each year.
