Cosmetology Colleges in Georgia

A cosmetologist performs hair, skin and nail services. Hair cutting and styling, perms, coloring, wig applications, highlighting, manicures, pedicures, facials and body wraps are all cosmetology services. In Georgia, cosmetologists must be licensed by the state Board of Cosmetology. The state issues a license to applicants who pass a written and practical exam and pay the required fees.

    • The Esani Institute in Alpharetta is in a partnership with the salon-products company Paul Mitchell. The basic cosmetology program teaches students coloring, multicultural techniques, cutting, design, fashion trends and makeup. The Esani Institute has day and evening classes. The daytime program is 15 months long; students can complete the evening program in two years. Entering students must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Qualified students may receive financial aid from the U.S. Department of Education.

    Georgia Career Institute

    • Georgia Career Institute offers a cosmetology program that is 1,500 hours long. Students learn basic skin care, manicures, hair cutting and styling, permanent waving, chemical relaxers and bacteriology. A high school diploma or GED is required for admission. Prospective students must interview with an admissions representative before being accepted. The cost of the program, including books and fees, is $16,400 as of June 2010. Financial aid and payment plans are available.

    Empire Beauty School

    • The nationwide Empire Beauty School has three locations in Georgia. The Kennesaw campus offers a cosmetology and hairstyling program. In addition to hairstyling, coloring and skin care, the cosmetology and hairstyling program also teaches students sales techniques, marketing and salon management. Empire Beauty School is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences. Tuition assistance is available to qualified students.

    • Virginia College offers a cosmetology diploma program at its Augusta campus. Students learn about haircutting, facials, salon ownership, product marketing and wigs.
