The University of the Rockies offers students a doctorate program that provides the opportunity to complete their degree in psychology online. Students may choose from 14 specialization areas that include topics such as business psychology, educational leadership, mental health administration, criminology and justice studies, health and wellness psychology and organizational diversity. Although majority of the program is completed online, students will be required to attend campus residency requirements for three courses that last for one weekend each on the Colorado Springs campus of the University of the Rockies. Students take courses that include survey of psychology, biological basis of behavior, adult psychopathology and treatment, family systems, and research design and methods.

Capella University offers three online Ph.D. program options in psychology that leads students to earn a doctor of philosophy degree. Students can choose from educational psychology, general psychology or industrial/organizational psychology. The only Doctor of Psychology program offered at Capella is the clinical track. Students take core courses that include social psychology, lifespan development, history and systems of psychology, ethics and multicultural issues in psychology, and orientation to doctoral learning in psychology. Students will also have the opportunity to select their electives from topics that include family system theories, principles of family pathology, community psychology and innovative health care practices.

Walden University has an online program in psychology that leads students to obtaining a Ph.D. Students are required, however, to complete face-to-face residencies for each phase of the program; this means students will complete four residencies. Students in this program choose from five specialization areas: clinical psychology, general psychology, counseling psychology, organizational psychology and health psychology. Students will take courses that include foundations for graduate study in psychology, history and systems for psychology, contemporary issues in psychology, principles of organizational psychology, and development and lifespan development.
