The University of Utah's Doctor of Philosophy degree in school psychology is accredited by the APA and trains students to practice both in schools and other educational and psychological settings. The program offers students two specialty tracks. The neuropsychology specialty focuses on diagnosing and treating children with learning disorders that have a genetic or biological basis. The consultation/interventions track trains school psychologists to consult with educators and parents on a range of issues--such as mental retardation and childhood depression--and design both school and home-based interventions.
The University of Utah's program also offers concentrated training in high-incidence disabilities, that is, students with severe behavior disorders and emotional disturbances and in the treatment of children who have autism and other severe disorders. For tuition and fees for the program, many students receive partial or full funding.

The University of Kentucky (UK) APA-accredited doctorate program in school psychology uses a "full service" school model approach in training. This approach recognizes the broad role psychologists have in working with, in and for diverse populations and settings. The program emphasizes diversity and a concern for social justice, with special concern for socio-economically disadvantaged populations and the individual as a human being. Students have the opportunity to "tailor" their educational experience and design their own coursework sequences throughout the program. Kentucky residents pay approximately $4,600 per semester in tuition and fees for the doctorate program as of the 2010 school year.
