Doctorate of Ministry Programs

The Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) credential is a post-graduate degree for the working ministry professional. It is a practical rather than academically oriented credential, designed to enhance clergy members' leadership and professional skills. Many seminaries and universities offer the D.Min in a variety of formats that accommodate the busy schedule of a pastor.
  1. Denver Seminary

    • Denver Seminary in Colorado aims to transform each student in its D.Min program. Instructors seek to identify the unique skill set that each pastor possesses and to create an educational program to enhance those skills. Seminars are a week long and are offered on campus in January and July of each year. The student has an additional five months to complete the assigned work for each class. This format requires the student to be away from her church for only two weeks each year.

    Boston University

    • Boston University traces its history back to 1839 and is the oldest United Methodist seminary in the United States. It offers a D.Min degree in four areas of emphasis: pastoral counseling, spirituality, evangelism and liturgical studies. Alternatively, a student can design a different degree track with faculty approval. The pastor is able to tailor a program specific to the area of ministry in which he finds himself.

    Dallas Theological Seminary

    • The D.Min program at Dallas Theological Seminary offers a very flexible degree program, with only six hours of required coursework. The rest of the credit hours can be designed by the candidate and his faculty advisor to best serve the student's ministry needs. DTS offers a degree emphasis in Hispanic Leadership through their extension campus in Guatemala.

    Liberty University

    • Through Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, Liberty University Online offers a D.Min credential attained through participation in a blended program. In addition to the pastoral counseling and leadership tracks offered by other institutions, LUO offers a track in expository preaching and a general track without a specific emphasis. The blended program holds some coursework on campus and some online, allowing students more flexibility to complete the program while continuing to serve.

    Andrews University

    • The Seventh Day Adventist clergy is served by a D.Min program through Andrews University. It is a blended program of classroom and virtual (i.e., online) delivery. The classes for different emphases are held at multiple geographical locations around the United States.
