Top Ten Counseling Psychology Graduate Programs in Virginia

When pursuing higher education, students are met with a host of programs available within some of the United States' top colleges and universities. Some academic pursuits are more specific than others, such as a Counseling Psychology graduate program. The American Psychological Association has only accredited a small number of colleges and universities who educate students in this field. With only a small amount accredited, many states do not have schools who can provide this degree. The state of Virginia offers a few programs that cater to this program, so while there is not a "Top Ten" list of schools, there are three universities who provide strong education in this field.
  1. Marymount University

    • Located just outside of the nation's capital in Arlington, Virginia, is Marymount University. Marymount is an independent, coeducational Catholic university. Within the school's School of Education and Human Services is the Forensic Psychology's Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology graduate program. Students learn the skills necessary to apply psychological knowledge to the judicial system, which includes assisting victims and participating in the judicial system. When graduate students complete 26 credits within the program, they are eligible to apply for the Community Counseling Master of Arts degree. Coupled with the Forensic Psychology degree, graduates are better able to assess the judicial system and have the opportunity to sit on the National Board of Certified Counselors.
