The Psychology Department at the University of California Berkeley offers a doctoral program that does not require an undergraduate degree in psychology, although a strong background in psychological research is essential. The 2009 admission rate to the graduate program was only 5.6 percent, so potential students should work on making their admission application as good as possible. Three letters of recommendation are required for admission, as are a high general GRE score and a high TOEFL score for students that are not from countries with English as an official language.
