The College of Education at the University of Missouri offers a master's of education and a Ph.D in counseling psychology. The master's program includes specializations in school counseling, career counseling and development and sports psychology. The master's of education degree along with an educational specialist degree in the school counseling track prepares students for certification at the elementary and secondary school levels. The Ph.D program prepares students for licensure as counseling psychologists. All programs are accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Tuition is $298 per credit for residents and an additional $472 per credit for nonresidents as of July 2010.

The University of Maryland's Department of Psychology offers a counseling psychology Ph.D program. The program is designed to give you the training and certification needed to be eligible for licensure as a counseling psychologist in any state. Students are expected to remain involved in research while pursuing their degree. The doctoral program is conducted by the departments of psychology and counseling and personnel services. You must enroll full-time for the first three years of the program plus work 10 to 20 hours per week as a graduate assistant. Tuition for the program is $500 per credit for residents and $1,077 for nonresidents as of July 2010.

The State University of New York's University at Albany offers a master's degree in mental health counseling and a Ph.D. program in counseling psychology. Both of the school's programs are accredited by the APA. The Ph.D. program focuses on preparing students for licensure as professional counselors and psychologists. The program employs a scientist-practitioner model to encourage contribution to ongoing psychological research and to broaden the background and knowledge of practicing counselors. Tuition is $8,370 per year for residents and $13,250 for nonresidents as of July 2010.
