    Albany State University

    • Albany State University, established in 1903, began as a college for African Americans in search of higher education. Although nearly 90 percent of the 2009 student population identified themselves as African American, the school remains open to students of all races and ethnicities. The four-year college offers undergraduate degrees in such fields as criminal justice, biology and music. Students may also obtain graduate degrees in such studies as education, nursing and business administration. The school averages around 4,000 students.

    Darton College

    • Darton College, a two-year community college, offers 84 different associate degrees and nearly 50 certificate programs. The school features studies in such fields as computer programming, fine arts, science and mathematics. For extracurricular activity, Darton College features more than 30 campus clubs, including organizations geared toward environmental awareness, gaming, science and music. The school also offers 11 sports teams and an extensive intramural program.
