For those who wish to receive their BA in creative writing, Emory University offers courses in playwriting, screenwriting, poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. Five writing workshops must be completed as part of the major and six 300-level English courses including poetry, prose and 19th-century writing. The Emory Creative Writing Club meets to discuss prose, poetry, lyrics and more in a friendly atmosphere where aspiring writers critique and encourage their peers. As part of the school's Creative Writing Program Reading Series held each semester, local novelists, screenwriters, playwrights and Emory faculty share their prose for an evening.
Aspiring journalists enrolled at the the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Georgia choose between a concentration in newspapers or magazines with their a bachelor of arts degree. Students in both concentrations are required to take introduction to journalism, news writing and reporting and public affairs reporting. The news writing class and magazine article writing class are optional depending on the student's journalism concentration. Elective courses for both concentrations include learning to write about pop culture and fine arts in the school's critical writing and reviewing class.

At Agnes Scott College, an all-women's college in Georgia, aspiring writers choose between a major or minor in English literature --- creative writing. These courses offer a foundation in literature courses including Irish, British-American and postcolonial literature. Every English major takes a course on perspectives on literature and a senior research seminar in creative writing, in which students create an original work that may include a poetry book, a short novel, or a screenplay. Agnes Scott's Annual Writers' Festival welcomes renowned poets, novelists and playwrights to the campus each year.
The Atlanta location of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) offers a writing major as part of the School of Liberal Arts. A bachelor of fine arts degree in writing at SCAD includes 65 hours of general education courses and 70 hours of major curriculum courses including fiction writing, writing for the Arts, writing for the web and more. The master of fine arts in writing student at SCAD must complete an additional 90 hours of courses including freelance writing for publication, the publishing process and business and professional writing.
