Macon is a city located in Bibb County, Georgia in the central part of the state about 85 miles south of Atlanta. This location gives Macon its nickname of the "Heart of Georgia." Macon has many fine colleges for its residents and those who want to live in this area.

    • Mercer University was founded in 1833 and recent enrollment stands at 8100, with half at the undergraduate level. The college was founded by Southern Baptists, but maintains no formal affiliation with that denomination. Mercer University offers degrees in a range of disciplines from Liberal Arts to Business to Law. Mercer University also has campuses in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia.

    • Macon State College offers bachelors, associates and certificates in a variety of fields, and the college bills itself as offering "market driven disciplines." Macon State College is a non-residential college so all students are commuters. The college is a bargain to boot and its students can get a bachelors degree for less than $12,000.

    Central Georgia Technical College

    • Central Georgia Technical College was founded in 1962 as the Macon Area Vocational-Technical School. The college has evolved considerably since then, and obtained its present name in 2000. The college offers many different programs across different disciplines. These include the Public Services, which offers cosmetology, barbering, and criminal justice programs; and Trade and Industrial, which offers Air Conditioning, automotive, carpentry, and construction management programs.

    Wesleyan College

    • Wesleyan College was founded in 1836 in association with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and started life as a school exclusively for Women. Wesleyan College offers only a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in more than 30 different fields including Accounting, Art History, Biology, Economics or History.

      The college also offers a dual Bachelor of Arts and Engineering degree in association with the Georgia Institute of Technology, Auburn University, and Mercer University. On the Graduate level, the college offers a Masters of Education and an Executive MBA program.

      Wesleyan College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and is open to women only at the undergraduate level and is coed at the graduate school level.
