Georgia Gwinnett College opened on Aug. 18, 2006, becoming the first new four-year public college in Georgia in more than 100 years and the first in the nation to open in the 21st century. Offering bachelor's degrees in a dozen disciplines---biology, business administration, criminal justice, early childhood education, English, exercise science, history, information technology, mathematics, political science, psychology and special education---GGC prides itself on its use of technology in the classroom, including built-in class recorders and smart-phone capabilities. The college, which had an enrollment of almost 3,000 as of fall 2009 and also offers teacher certification concentrations in biology, English, history, mathematics and political science, aims to "create high-energy, high-tech learning experiences" in the heart of Lawrenceville, according to its website.

Two four-year universities have satellite locations in Lawrenceville. The University of Georgia, the state's main public university, has a campus in Lawrenceville that offers graduate-level programs and continuing education for adults, including a popular Master of Business Administration program. Shorter University, a private Baptist college whose main campus is in Rome, Ga., has a Lawrenceville campus that offers associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in business and education, according to Aimee Madden, public relations specialist for Shorter.

Gwinnett Technical College, known as GTC, has been a staple of Lawrenceville's higher-education community for more than 20 years and offers "relevant knowledge for career advancement and improved quality of life," according to its website. The college offers certificate and diploma programs, associate's degrees and continuing- and adult-education courses in many disciplines, including automotive, business and finance, computer science, construction, cosmetology, culinary and hotel, restaurant and tourism, education, health sciences, horticulture, machine tool and welding, public safety and service. veterinary technology, and visual arts, fashion and design.

Two trade schools with campus locations in several American cities offer classes in Lawrenceville. The Connecticut School of Broadcasting---the nation's oldest and largest broadcasting school, according to its website---houses one of its 11 campuses in Lawrenceville, offering radio and television certification. Also, the Aviation Institute of Maintenance offers prospective students a degree and hands-on training in working on airplanes at one of its nine campuses nationwide. The Lawrenceville campus offers an aviation maintenance technical engineer, or AMTE, program and an aviation maintenance technician, or AMT, program, both of which prepare students for an FAA exam required for entry-level employment. The school's avionics technician program teaches students to "maintain, test, repair and replace electronic systems and subsystems on an aircraft," according to the school's website.
