The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) began in 1973. Students interested in this program are required to complete all academic and clinical aspects of the program before graduation to become board-eligible. Graduates of CSUF's ATEP are employed with professional athletic teams, at colleges and universities, high schools, medical offices and clinics.
Class size is small, and students in CSUF's program take classes through the school's departments of health and human development and kinesiology.

The University of Miami's athletic trainer program offers course work in areas including first aid, emergency care, nutrition, injury and illness prevention and more. Students learn in both the classroom and via supervised clinical education. To earn a bachelor of science degree, students must complete 42 to 45 credits in the major. Students will learn about professional organization and responsibility, as well as athletic training.

Located in Dubuque, Iowa, Loras College is a private Catholic school. It offers an athletic training program designed to ready students for entry-level careers in athletic training and/or graduate studies. Students apply to the program during their first year in college; the athletic training program runs for six consecutive semesters. Students receive a bachelor's degree that incorporates both a liberal arts foundation and the knowledge and skills necessary for a career as an athletic trainer.
