Photography Schools

Photography schools teach students a wide range of subjects including photography techniques, copyright protection and how to use the computer to process images and photo illustrations. Job opportunities for graduates include photojournalism, portrait photography and photo advertising. Several schools offer students the opportunity to train in photography to embark on any of these career paths.
  1. Harrington College of Design

    • The Harrington College of Design is located in Chicago, Illinois. It offers two photography programs: Associate of Applied Science in Digital Photography and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Photography. The Associate of Applied Science Degree Program at Harrington College of Design allows students to earn a specialized associate degree in digital photography in five semesters. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program at Harrington helps students develop their own personal style by teaching them the technical skills necessary to produce and market commercial pictures. This program also teaches students about professional digital capture systems and image editing software.

    New York Film Academy

    • The New York Film Academy offers an MFA in Photography, as well as one-year, eight-week and four-week photography programs. The MFA in Photography is a full-time, four-semester graduate program. Each semester is 16 weeks, and the aim of this program is to train students in the techniques of mastering the latest tools used in the course of photography, as well as to teach them the business aspects of the career. Students enrolled in this program visit museums, studios, galleries, trade shows and agencies. They also have regular guest lecturers who are working photojournalists, curators and artists, and who provide critiques for their work. The one-year program gives students hands-on experience in areas like aesthetics, motion picture digital imaging and other photography technology. The eight-week photography workshop introduces students to the tools necessary to capture good images, while the four-week workshop introduces students to the art and craft of still photography.

    Antonelli College

    • Antonelli College is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. It offers two photography degrees: Associate of Applied Science in Digital Photography for Graphic Design, and Associate of Applied Business in Photography. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Digital Photography for Graphic Design is designed to help students develop software skills to effectively use Adobe Creative Suites. It also teaches them how to use different photography techniques like product, sports, portrait, editorial and fashion. The Associate of Applied Business in Photography degree prepares students for positions in professional photography.

    Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts

    • Boston University Center for Digital Arts offers two photography certificates: the Professional Photography Certificate and the Multimedia for Photographers Certificate. The Professional Photography Certificate prepares students for a future as a professional photographer, while the Multimedia for Photographers Certificate is designed to help students develop the skills needed to create compelling stories for digital media.
