Michigan's Best Photography Schools

Michigan's top photography schools train students for professional careers in photography. Bachelor's degree programs are offered to train students in the artistic use of film and digital cameras. Schools are located in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids and Troy to allow students a range of options.

    • The Michigan Academy of Media Arts, in Troy, offers programs in photography, in addition to filmmaking and graphic design.     The Art Institute of Michigan

    • Students can earn bachelor's degrees in digital photography from the Art Institute of Michigan in Detroit. Students are taught the fundamentals of digital photography, including composition and design skills. The school also teaches business and communication skills so that students can work as independent contractors or run their own photography studios.

    University of Michigan--Ann Arbor

    • The University of Michigan--Ann Arbor offers photography courses as part of coursework towards a degree in fine arts from the School of Art and Design. The university's Residential College photography studio allows students to study photography and develop film in a dark room.

    Kendall College of Art and Design

    • Ferris State University's Kendall College of Art and Design, in Grand Rapids, offers a bachelor's degree in photography. Students can take courses in digital and film photography, lighting, color, and special topics as taught by the instructor. Scholarships are available.
