Top Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Schools

Going far beyond the development of chemicals and identification of their structural properties, chemical engineers employ the science of chemistry in real world, problem-solving applications. From designing microcomputers to finding ways to safely dispose of industrial waste, there is a wide spectrum of career paths available to chemical engineers. Training in the field is intensive, and chemical engineers hold graduate degrees more often than professionals in other engineering fields, according to the Princeton Review.
  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    • The chemical engineering program at MIT describes it's subject of study as one of transformation. As the largest chemical engineering program in the United States, ChemE, as the department is referred to, prepares students to enter the professional environment with the ability to transform problems into solutions in the medical, mechanical and societal fields. ChemE students master the fundamentals of chemical engineering and apply that mastery to solve complex problems.

    University of California, Berkeley

    • Formally established in 1946 and housed in the College of Chemistry, the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of California has a long tradition of discovery and success. Spurred by war efforts in the program's infancy, chemical engineering at Berkeley has been at the forefront of research and development in the field. The department's mission is to train students to be successful leaders and innovators who serve society through careers in industry, government and the profession. The department of chemistry has been home to seven Nobel Laureates.
