Junior Colleges in Georgia

Georgia is home to more than 40 technical and liberal-arts based community colleges. Community colleges, also called junior colleges, offer two-year associate's degrees as well as subject certificates. Some junior colleges offer a few bachelor of arts or science degrees, but most are focused on providing a base education for students who will transfer to four-year institutions or specialized education in a trade that students can enter into immediately upon graduation.
  1. Northern Georgia

    • Located in northern Georgia, near the border with Tennessee, Atlanta is Georgia's biggest city and home to a number of junior colleges. Atlanta Metropolitan College offers degree programs in more than 40 subjects and offers day, night and online classes. Atlanta Technical College offers math and science classes as well as specialized courses in airframe welding, gas turbine power plants, haircutting and other trade subjects. Other colleges in northern Georgia include DeKalb Technical College in Columbus and Georgia Highlands College in Rome.

    Southern Georgia

    • Southern Georgia, home to cities like Valdosta, Waycross, Thomasville and Bainbridge, contains a variety of technical and liberal arts-oriented junior colleges. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College and Southwest Georgia Technical College are technical community colleges in southern Georgia, while Waycross College and Bainbridge College offer a more liberal arts- oriented junior college education. All schools are members of the American Association of Community Colleges.

    Eastern Georgia

    • Savannah Technical College offers students the opportunity to earn associate's degrees in fields like accounting, air conditioning technology and fire science, in a beautiful coastal setting. The school also offers diplomas in trades like construction management, barbering, and aircraft structural technology, and technical certificates are granted in fields like concrete forming, family childcare, and gas metal arc welding. Augusta Technical College is another junior college in eastern Georgia.

    Central Georgia

    • Central Georgia includes cities like Macon, Vidalia and Albany, all of which are home to junior colleges such as Central Georgia Technical College in Macon, Southeastern Technical Community College in Vidalia and Darton College in Albany. All schools are members of the American Association of Community Colleges and provide thorough, affordable educations.
