Community or Junior Colleges in Georgia

Community colleges or junior colleges are two year accredited colleges that offer associates degrees in varying concentrations. They are are typically inexpensive, smaller institutions that provide the general education requirements towards a bachelor's at a larger university. Community colleges help make the transition from high school to college easier.
  1. Lanier Technical Institute

    • Lanier Technical Institute is a two-year community college that offers professional training and specialized degrees in various trades. You will find concentrations in accounting, computer systems, dental hygiene, cosmetology, HVAC repair, plumbing, welding, drafting, healthcare management, nursing, real estate and pharmacy. Lanier Tech offers traditional on-campus classes as well as many online classes. Lanier Tech also offers GED programs. The college has five different locations: Oakwood, Forsyth, Jackson, Winder-Barrow and Dawson. Admissions is flexible and open.

    GMC Community College

    • The Georgia Military Community College opened its doors in 1879 as the Middle Georgia Military and Agricultural College. The name was changed to the Georgia Military Community College in 1900. It is a two-year liberal arts college and also contains a prep school for grades 6 through 12. The college offers associates degrees in many areas including, behavior science, education, pre-nursing, paralegal, biology and math. GMC focuses on the core curriculum to prepare students for larger institutions. Most GMC students live off-campus. The ROTC program is required for all students that live on campus. It prepares students to serve as commissioned officers in the military.

    Andrew College

    • Andrew College is a private two-year college that is located in southwest Georgia. It opened its doors as a junior college in 1917 and became coed in 1956. The college offers associates degrees in many areas including pre-law, pre-dentistry, biology, criminal justice, social work, music, history and education. You will also find many different sports teams to join, such as basketball, baseball, soccer, golf and cross-country. Andrew provides tutoring for those needing assistance, as well as English as a second language classes for Spanish speaking students. Students can join a variety of organizations, including environmental organizations, Baptist Student Ministries, spirit squad, art league and the yearbook staff.
