Located in Rainsville, in the northeast corner of the state, Northeast State Community College offers two-year degrees in liberal arts, associate of science and associate of applied science. Nursing and EMS programs are also available along with short certificate programs and skills training. Northeast has a strong drama program and offers a two-year degree in theatre. The area began its theatre arts program in 1983 and by 1995, its success and popularity led to the construction of the Tom Bevill Lyceum, built to seat 742 people and includes classrooms for theatre arts students. Hosting many community plays throughout the year, the Tom Bevill Lyceum allows students to practice their art before a captive audience. For the student whose heart is set on acting or production as a career, an Associate in Arts Theatre degree from NACC may be the place to start.
Located near enough to Alabama's white sandy beaches for a quick car trip to the Gulf, Faulkner offers two-year associate degree programs in the arts, sciences and applied sciences. Many certificate programs are also available in various fields, such as the Five Star Southern Hospitality Certification Program. With three locations in Baldwin County, students may choose to attend campuses in Bay Minette, Fairhope or Gulf Shores. The Gulf Shores campus is known for its culinary arts program, which offers both degree and certificate options. Many of this resort area's local chefs got their start at Faulkner State.
This school offers the convenience of three locations in Alexander City, Childersburg and Talladega. CACC offers two-year degrees in science, applied science and occupational technology. The associate in science degree is geared primarily toward transfer to a four-year college or university, while the applied science and occupational technology degrees prepare the student for employment upon leaving the community college. Certificate programs in such fields as computer information systems (CIS), drafting and design and cosmetology are designed to allow the student to gain education, though not a degree, in a particular field of employ.
Marion Military Institute in Marion, gears its curriculum toward preparing students for both military and civilian careers. However, students are taught in a disciplined, military-style environment. Marion offers ROTC and civilian leadership courses. Whereas Marion accepts civilian students, Air University is one of the few military community colleges in the nation providing education to enlisted military enrollees. Located at Montgomery's Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, this junior college provides military air force degrees and continuing education for officers.
