Forensic Doctoral Programs

A forensic psychologist deals with issues such as those related to homeland security, sex crimes and human trafficking. These forensic doctoral programs provide students with the opportunity to perform extensive research on these aspects of forensic psychology and will prepare students for entry into this law enforcement field with an in-depth knowledge of forensics. Students can choose between clinical tracks to become a practicing psychologist, or they can choose to focus on the experimental track and pursue the researching aspect of the field.
  1. John Jay College of Criminal Justice

    • John Jay College of Criminal Justice offers a forensic doctoral program that is divided into two separate tracks. Students can choose to pursue the doctoral degree in clinical forensic psychology, or they can opt to pursue the experimental forensic psychology track. The clinical track requires practicum experience and prepares students to become licensed psychologists, while the experimental track does not require a practicum and does not prepare students to become licensed psychologists.

    The Chicago School of Professional Psychology

    • The Chicago School of Professional Psychology offers a forensic psychology doctoral program that leads to a Doctor of Psychology degree in clinical psychology, with an emphasis in forensic psychology. This program is designed to be completed in five years, but it can be completed in as many as seven years. Students in the forensic psychology concentration area will take courses that include violence and risk assessment; mental health law; forensic documentation and report writing and testimony; and evaluation and treatment of the offender. This specialization educates students on the basic knowledge of the psychologist's role in the legal system.

    Alliant International University

    • Alliant University offers a forensic psychology program in clinical psychology that leads to a Ph.D. upon completion of the program. Students who are interested in this forensic psychology program can choose between specializations such as criminal psychology, human trafficking, neuropsychology, public policy, sex crimes and homeland security. This Ph.D. program trains students to become forensic clinicians, with a focus on research. The program lasts for five years, and students will study advanced social psychology, professional ethics, introduction to forensic psychology and biological basis of behavior. Students will also take classes including advanced statistical analysis; research design and data analysis; developmental basis of behavior; and legal research.
