Canadian Psychology Graduate Programs

To become a practicing psychologist in Canada, a person must earn either a master's or doctoral degree in psychology and become registered or chartered. Whether a student is required to obtain a master's or doctoral degree for registration varies between the provinces. Psychology graduate programs are available in Canadian academic institutions, providing students with the education needed to become a licensed psychologist as well as the ability to practice independently.

    • McGill University offers masters and doctoral degrees in psychology. McGill offers two psychology track options in clinical psychology and experimental psychology, both of which are full-time programs. Required courses include Modern Psychology in Historical Perspective, Special Topics in Neuropsychology, The Psychology of Pain and Advances in Visual Perception.

    Brock University

    • Brock University offers masters and doctoral degrees in behavioral neuroscience, social/personality psychology and lifespan development. Students may pursue either degree on a full or part-time basis if needed. Courses include Classic Theories of Personality, Introduction to Psychology, Brain and Behavior, Abnormal Psychology, Critical Thinking in Psychology and Psychology of Eating.

    Queen's University

    • Queen's University offers both a master's degrees and a doctoral degree in four areas of study, including clinical psychology, social-personality, developmental and brain, behavior and cognitive science. Required courses include Current Theories in Cognitive Development, Language Development, Socioemotional Development, Ethical and Professional Issues, Adult Clinical Psychology and Child-Adolescent Clinical Psychology.

    University of British Columbia

    • The University of British Columbia offers both a Master of Arts degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree program in psychology. Both options are delivered on campus and the master's degree option requires the completion of a thesis. Both degree options require a full time schedule of study and students can complete both programs in four years. Sometimes, however, it takes students five or six years to complete both options. The University of British Columbia has seven areas of study in psychology such as behavioral neuroscience, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, health psychology, cognitive science, social/personality and quantitative methods.
