Social psychology at its most basic level is the study of interactions between people. Several universities including Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, offer graduate degrees in social psychology. At Yale, students study the relationship between and individuals beliefs, motivations and attitudes, and how people behave in social situations such as communication and decision making. When psychology is applied to the legal field, this is referred to as forensic psychology. A graduate degree in forensic psychology allows an individual to obtain employment in correctional or psychiatric facilities or to provide psychological evaluations of suspects and victims in legal cases. Schools such as the Chicago School which has locations in Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, DC, offer a master's or a PsyD degree in forensic psychology. Applicants to the PsyD program are expected to take the GRE exam, answer essay questions and have completed on course in statistics and one in abnormal psychology. Applicants to the master's degree program must submit answers to essay questions and have completed one course each in psychology, research methods and statistics.
