The University of Phoenix offers an undergraduate certificate program to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in which the student can complete many of the required courses online. This course is accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing. The clinical portion of the program is all done at one of three campuses located in Mokena, Warrenville or Schaumburg. The students gain experience by seeing patients while completing their LPN certificates. The University of Phoenix also offers further more advanced nursing degrees.
Illinois Central College is located in East Peoria and offers a licensed practical nursing certificate (LPN) course of study. Many of the classes required for the course are available online, while clinical portion of the program is done on campus. The course accreditation is setup through the Nursing Accrediting Commission, which oversees the training of all LPNs at the school. Upon completion, students will be able to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses to receive their designation as a certified practical nursing assistant.
Harper College is located in Palatine, 25 miles northwest of Chicago. The college offers a basic certified nurse assistant program that can be completed in one semester. Half of the classes can be taken online, while the other half must be competed as part of the clinical aspect of the certificate. Upon completion of the courses in the program, students must take the Illinois Department of Public Health Nurse Aide Competency Exam. Students at the school average a 99 percent passing rate. Once passed, the student is listed in the state of Illinois nurse aide registry and will have the skills needed to work as a nursing assistant.
