Medical colleges in Baton Rouge include institutions that are extensions of area hospitals and schools that offer medical certificates. These schools focus on nursing, clinical training and medical therapy careers. Select schools focus on training designed specifically for health conditions affecting Louisiana residents. These schools offer certificates, associate, bachelor's and master's degrees.
  1. Our Lady of the Lake College

    • Our Lady of the Lake College consists of two academic schools and a Health Career Institute. The School of Arts, Science and Health Professions offers associate and bachelor's degrees as well as Master of Medical Science degrees in physician associate studies. Bachelor degree programs include biology, clinical laboratory sciences and health service administration. Associate degree programs consist of long-term care, respiratory therapy, surgical technology and radiologic technology. The School of Nursing features associate degrees in nursing, bachelor of science in nursing degrees and master of nursing degrees. The Health Career Institute offers medical career diplomas and certificates. Application requirements include a high school diploma with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or a GED score of 500 and an ACT score of 20 or an SAT score of 950. Our Lady of the Lake also accepts transfer credits.

    Baton Rouge General Medical Center

    • Baton Rouge General Medical Center has medical education programs in nursing and sports medicine. The Sports Medicine Fellowship helps students care for different sports-related injuries. Students work with athletes at Louisiana State University and Baton Rouge-area high schools. The Family Medicine Residency Program addresses the health care needs of Louisiana residents. Admission requirements include either one high school unit or three credit units of chemistry and 25 credit hours of college level biology and general education courses with a 2.7 grade point average. You must submit your high school transcript or GED scores, college credit, admission test scores and documentation of CPR certification in the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course. You can earn your nursing degree in two years.

    Medical Training College

    • Medical Training College in Baton Rouge offers programs for dental assistants, medical office specialist, massage therapy and medical assistants. Its massage therapy program is based on human anatomy and physiology. Students learn how to administer massages to reduce pain, increase flexibility and relax clients. Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma, GED or valid home-schooling credentials and be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. Seventeen-year-old students must have parental approval. Incoming students must complete an interview with college counselors. It takes between seven months to a year to complete each program. Medical Training College provides private financial aid as well as federal Pell Grants, Plus Loans and Direct Loans.
