Baton Rouge Community College declares its mission to be "to identify and meet the educational needs of its community through innovative, dynamic programs that are accessible to all. Baton Rouge Community College is focused on the community and has been offering education for that community for nearly a century. A number of degree programs offer transfer to four-year colleges, allowing students to get their basics at a community college. Two-year degrees and certificates are offered in such fields as business and social science, liberal arts, science, technology, engineering and math.
While Delta College is a career-centered school, meaning that its programs are designed to get students into specific careers, there is a wider range of career choices than at some other career-based schools. The Baton Rouge campus offers programs ranging from medical office administration, transcription, billing and coding to business office administration and practical nursing (LPN). Other programs currently offered include graphic design and dental and medical assistant programs.
Remington College is a school with a focus on online education. However, it has a local campus in Baton Rouge. The school does have a "job training" type of curriculum, but has a fairly wide range of career choices available. The Baton Rouge campus has diploma programs in cosmetology, medical assisting, medical bill and coding and pharmacy technician. In addition, it offers associate's degrees in business office management, computer and network administration and criminal justice.
In many ways Southern University and A&M College is the most comprehensive college in Baton Rouge. It was formed in 1890 as a historically African American college. The school currently serves a diverse population and provides a wide range of academic opportunities. The offerings include a full range of undergraduate programs, an honors college and graduate programs. Programs in such diverse fields as agriculture, family and consumer sciences, business, arts and humanities, education and engineering make Southern University and A&M College a well-rounded institution.
