Delta College of Arts & Technology is in Covington, about 8 miles from Mandeville (approximately 12 minutes by car). Programs offered at the college include dental and medical assisting, massage therapy, medical office specialists, office administration and practical nursing. At the campus, students can earn two-year associate degrees in culinary arts, early childhood education, horticulture and allied health careers. Online courses are also offered for students. The school sponsors a baseball team and a men's and women's basketball teams, and a number of student organizations are also available. In Hammond, Compass Career College is about 26 miles from Mandeville (approximately 30 minutes by car). The private school opened in 1997 and has an enrollment of about 150. The school's programs include nurse aide technology, phlebotomy, medical assisting and medical billing and coding. Depending on the course of study, students can earn their certificate of completion in 125 to 825 hours of training. Externships are a feature of most of the programs. Federal and state financial aid programs are offered for students as well as veterans' programs and vocational rehabilitation grants.
