Wichita Area Technical College offers 95 degrees and certificates in aviation, health care, design and manufacturing as well as a general education program. The college includes three campuses, including a main campus in Old Town Wichita and two smaller campuses on East 47th Street and South Grove. Tuition at Wichita Area Technical College is dependent on the program and can range from a few hundred dollars to more than $10,000. To help students prepare for their careers, the college invites industry experts to advise and help shape the programs based on employment needs.
Wichita Technical Institute has two campuses in the city --- a main campus near the Wichita Airport and another branch close to downtown. The school offers programs in integrated electronics technology, computer technology and network administration, medical assisting, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology, and medical insurance billing and coding. Students at Wichita Technical Institute spend the majority of their time doing lab work and earning hands-on training for their careers.
Vatterott College has locations across the United States including one in northeast Wichita. Programs are available in computer programming and technology, medical assisting, information systems security, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology, and electrical mechanics. Class sizes at Vatterott are capped at no more than 30 students and labs are capped at 20 students. The school also offers a job placement service for graduates.
Vernon's is a technical college for those who want to pursue careers in cosmetology. Located in the Westway Shopping Mall, Vernon's offers a general cosmetology program where students learn hair styling, cutting and coloring as well as manicuring and state rules and regulations. The program can be completed in 10 to 18 months for a cost of less than $10,000. The school awards a small number of grants to help students pay for the school.
Heritage College has programs available for students interested in becoming massage therapists, personal trainers, x-ray technicians, pharmacy technicians or health care workers and administrators. The college's Wichita campus is located on Wichita's east side and has been open since May 2008. Students in the massage therapy program get real-world experience by practicing on clients who make appointments at the school's massage clinic.
