Maine Technical Colleges

Technical and community colleges typically offer two-year associate degrees, and are intended to provide affordable education. Technical colleges serve as an alternative to traditional universities, and focus on career preparation. In Maine, the Community College System oversees several technical colleges throughout the state, each preparing students with the skills needed to enter the state's workforce.

    • Eastern Maine Technical College is located in Bangor, Maine, on a 72-acre downtown campus. Two campus residence halls are available for students who choose to live at the college. Eastern Maine Technical College offers 30 different technical programs in the health, business and engineering fields. Associate degrees in liberal arts areas such as communications and English also are available.

    Southern Maine Technical College

    • Southern Maine Technical College is located in South Portland, and is situated on an 80-acre campus near the coast. Southern Maine is the oldest community college in the state of Maine. The school offers 40 areas of study, with an emphasis on health care, science and job skills preparation. Additionally, a liberal arts program is available for students wishing to obtain basic credits before transferring to larger four-year universities.

    Northern Maine Technical College

    • Northern Maine Technical College was first established in 1961, and has since grown to an average yearly enrollment of 2,000 students. The college offers associate's degrees in 30 different programs, such as technology, nursing and general education. A residence hall and several apartments are available for students interested in living on the campus.
