The University of California at San Francisco offers a three-year postgraduate program that results in certification in pediatric dentistry and an M.S. degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences. A Ph.D. degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences is also available for those engaging in further study. The program is affiliated with Children's Hospital Medical Center in Oakland, which provides residents with experience in treating pediatric dental trauma and children with special needs. Graduates are also eligible for board certification upon successful completion of an examination given by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Applications must be received by October 1 in the year before entry into the program. All applicants must have successfully completed a D.D.S. or D.M.D. program, an application through the national PASS (Postdoctoral Application Support Service) program, the GRE and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), if non-English-speaking.

The Children's Hospital of Wisconsin offers a two-year advanced residency program in pediatric dentistry. The hospital-based program is accredited by the American Dental Association. Upon completion, residents are eligible for certification after taking an exam offered by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Residents also may choose to earn a master's degree in pediatric dentistry from Marquette University in Milwaukee. To be considered for admission, applicants must have an ADA- or CDA (California Dental Association)-approved D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree and apply by October 1 of the year prior to residency. They also must have passed Part I of the National Board Dental Exam and have completed an application through the PASS program.

The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the New York University School of Dentistry has been been committed to community service since its inception in 1949. Students participate in outreach programs in the public school system and local community centers. There is also a strong hospital component, ensuring the graduate is able to fully integrate into the medical community. To apply, prospective students must have a degree from a dental school affiliated with the American or Canadian Dental Association. They must also hold a New York State dental license or qualify for a limited permit and apply through the PASS program by September 15 one year before entry.

The program is affiliated with several area clinics and hospitals. Application deadlines vary; all candidates must have a competitive academic record with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree. Additionally, the first portion of the National Board Exam must be successfully completed for admission into the program.
