The School of Dentistry at the University of Minnesota is a research-oriented institution that has led the way in a number of important areas of dental medicine, including "discoveries in fluoride, virology, biomaterials, the link between bacteria in dental plaque and heart disease, and the relationship between oral health and general health and wellness." The university is the home of the Oral Health Clinical Research Center and the Minnesota Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics.
