Community Colleges in Northwest Georgia

Georgia makes education a high priority, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development, with focused programs from early childhood through the university level. Students in northwest Georgia can begin their higher education at several community colleges throughout the Atlanta area.
  1. Chattahoochee Technical College

    • Serving six counties in northwest Georgia, Chattahoochee Technical College offers about 100 programs. Students may choose diploma, certificate and associate degree programs from among the arts and sciences, business sciences, computer sciences and engineering technology, health sciences, personal and public services and technical studies programs. From diesel equipment technology to culinary arts to accounting, Chattahoochee Technical College aims to provide programs to suit most interests. The college boasts of small class sizes and a high rate of job placement success. Campuses are located in Jasper, Marietta, Acworth, Dallas, Austell and Woodstock.

    Atlanta Technical College

    • As part of the Technical College System of Georgia, Atlanta Technical College offers certificates, diplomas and associate degrees in about 80 programs through health and human services, business media and information technology, and skilled and technical trade programs. Students may choose from concentrations within the programs to study fields such as construction trades, early childhood education, computer programming, cosmetology, paralegal studies, and firefighting. Atlanta Technical College also has several community service programs, like an American Heart Association training center, continuing education opportunities and the Georgia Fatherhood Program, a project aimed at benefiting children by training their non-custodial parent.

    Georgia Perimeter College

    • With about 25,000 students, Georgia Perimeter College claims to be among the nation's fastest growing two-year colleges. It is part of the University System of Georgia. Students may seek a certificate, a career-focused associate degree, or a transfer associate degree in arts or sciences. Associate in arts degree programs feature 20 majors, including anthropology, communications, history, mathematics and psychology, while the associate in science programs offer a dozen more choices. Certificate programs include fire management, library and information sciences and sign language interpreting. A dual program agreement with DeKalb Technical College provides more options, like medical assisting and computer information systems. Students can participate in athletics, fine arts performances and other activities.
