With a population approaching 10,000, Canton is the county seat of Cherokee County, Georgia, 30 miles to the north of Atlanta.     Brown College

    • Brown College is a technical trade school in Atlanta that serves the students who are looking for work in the legal system as court reporters. The school is designed to prepare graduates to immediately enter the workforce as court reporting professionals. The school was founded in 1972 by a court reporter, Forrest M. Brown, who wanted to provide a training ground for high-quality court reporters. In addition to developing court reporters, Brown College has added CART/Captioning to its degree offerings.     Chattahoochee Technical College

    • The merger of three community colleges that have served the area near Canton, Georgia, has created the new Chattahoochee Technical College (CTC). The former service areas of Appalachian, Chattahoochee and North Metro Technical Colleges now are together to serve Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Gilmer, Paulding and Pickens counties. The joining of the schools by the Technical College System of Georgia strengthens the education and training services in the area. CTC offers more than 100 programs of study to prepare students to go to work or seek additional higher education.     DeKalb Technical College

    • DeKalb Technical College was founded in 1961 and is thus one of the oldest of the state's 33 technical colleges. DeKalb offers its students a warranty on their education and has multiple campus locations available. Students can attend classes at one of two campuses and five centers located throughout the service area. The college serves nearly 20,000 students each year and boasts a 99 percent job placement rate for its graduates. The HOPE Program, an acronym for Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally, is a unique financial aid program at DeKalb. The college's curriculum has been built in conjunction with local business leaders to guarantee that students are prepared for jobs in the local market upon graduation. Degree programs include automotive, business, computers, electronics and engineering, health care and professional services.
      DeKalb also offers an adult education and literacy program that includes GED preparation and citizenship preparation.
