At the Baltimore Academy of Nursing Assistants, one can train to be a CNA in six weeks. Students receive instruction directly from a registered nurse (RN) on staff and learn "basic nursing skills including taking vital signs, assuring patient safety, and caring for patients with Alzheimer's disease." According to the academy's website, its mission "is to prepare responsible, caring men and women to become competent and serve as responsible caregivers."

The Caroline Center offers special assistance to women who are unemployed or underemployed through free or low-cost training, education and support. The center is certified by the Maryland Board of Nursing to offer a CNA program that conducts classes and administers certification for nursing assistants. Eligible students may also have the opportunity to participate in clinical internships at local nursing homes for hands-on training that could lead to an employment offer.
