Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) was established in 1908 and is named for Abraham Baldwin, the first president of the University of Georgia. ABAC specializes in agricultural study. The curriculum at ABAC includes 50 programs with seven bachelor's degrees, associate degree programs and career technological programs. The largest division at ABAC is the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resource. Nursing is the most popular major. Enrollment for the fall of 2009 was 3,326 students.
ABAC offers 15 two-year career technological degrees and 19 certificate programs, which can typically be finished in one year. Both technological degrees and certificate programs are strong starting points to move on to more traditional four year colleges.
The campus is 421 acres and offers student housing, a dining hall and an Olympic-size pool. On campus housing can be arranged at ABAC Place apartments. Most of the student units have four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a furnished kitchen and living room. The units are not setup like traditional dorm rooms. Student housing is managed by the Student Life and Housing Office.
ABAC offers six intercollegiate sports and its student newspaper, the Stallion, has won awards from the Georgia Press Association.
