Colleges in Tifton, Georgia

Tifton, Georgia is a city with a population of over 15,000 in southern Georgia, according the city's official website, tifton.net. Tifton also is known as the "Friendly City" and is located close to Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41. There are two technical colleges and one agricultural college within 30 miles of Tifton. All three colleges offer certificate programs and associate degrees.
  1. Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College

    • Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) was established in 1908 and is named for Abraham Baldwin, the first president of the University of Georgia. ABAC specializes in agricultural study. The curriculum at ABAC includes 50 programs with seven bachelor's degrees, associate degree programs and career technological programs. The largest division at ABAC is the Division of Agriculture and Forest Resource. Nursing is the most popular major. Enrollment for the fall of 2009 was 3,326 students.

      ABAC offers 15 two-year career technological degrees and 19 certificate programs, which can typically be finished in one year. Both technological degrees and certificate programs are strong starting points to move on to more traditional four year colleges.

      The campus is 421 acres and offers student housing, a dining hall and an Olympic-size pool. On campus housing can be arranged at ABAC Place apartments. Most of the student units have four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a furnished kitchen and living room. The units are not setup like traditional dorm rooms. Student housing is managed by the Student Life and Housing Office.

      ABAC offers six intercollegiate sports and its student newspaper, the Stallion, has won awards from the Georgia Press Association.

    Valdosta Technical College- Cook County Campus

    • Valdosta Technical College was founded in 1963 and since then has expanded to include the Cook County Campus of Valdosta Tech. The Cook County Campus is built on five acres between Adel and Sparks, Georgia. Valdosta Technical College employs roughly 300 staff and has a student enrollment of roughly 5,000.

      Valdosta Technical College provides degree, diploma and certificate programs and many of its students go on to enroll in four-year colleges.

    Moultrie Technical College

    • Moultrie Technical College was founded in 1964 as Moultrie Area Vocational-Technical School under director Mr. W. W. Hobbs. Today, the college has five campuses with a staff of over 130 and an enrollment of over 2,000 students. The college offers over 50 degree, diploma and certificate programs and specializes in educating students in specific skilled trades.
