Choosing the right college is often one of the most difficult decisions for any prospective student. With a handful of colleges and universities to chose from, Springfield provides a great college-town setting for both in-state and out-of-state students looking for the large-campus experience, small commuter schools, medical colleges or religiously affiliated institutions.
  1. Missouri State University

    • Founded in 1905, Missouri State University is the second-largest university in the state with an enrollment of over 20,000 students as of 2010. Seven colleges make up the school in areas including business administration, education, arts and health as well as a graduate school. The school, nicknamed the "Bears," competes in NCAA Division 1-A athletics in all of its sports programs except for football, where it competes in Division 1-AA.

    Cox College

    • Specializing in medical fields, Cox College enrolls just over 500 students as of 2010. The school offers bachelor's, master's and associate's degrees in nursing as well as associate's degrees in radiography and medical assisting. The school also offers certificates in medical transcription and medical coding. The school provides a nursing resource center and professional relationships with CoxHealth Hospital.

    Evangel University

    • An Assemblies of God university, Evangel Univesity believes in integrating a strong faith within its educational mission. The school is accredited and offers bachelor's degrees in over 10 programs including music, theology, social sciences and communications. The school, with an 2010 enrollment of close to 2,000 students, competes in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, a member of the NAIA athletic association, in over 15 sports including men's and women's basketball, football, baseball and softball.

    Drury College

    • Founded in 1873, Drury College offers both bachelors degrees in 20 programs including theater, education, music and chemistry as well as a graduate studies in six areas including education, business administration and communications. The school offers student housing, but nearly half of the enrollment lives off campus. The school, nicknamed the "Panthers," competes in NCAA Division II athletics in 17 sports including baseball, football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer and softball.

    • A national system of over 90 colleges and secondary education centers, Everest College offers associate's and bachelor's degrees in accounting, business administration, paralegal and computer information science, among other programs. The commuter school provides flexible course schedules and online classes.
