Moberly Area Community College is a two-year public school that was founded in 1927. MACC has campus locations in Columbia, Hannibal, Edina, Moberly, Macon and Kirksville, Missouri. With enrollment at 4,952 at the Kirksville campus, students have opportunities to take courses to prepare them for starting a career or continuing on with their college education. A publicly-supported institution of higher learning, MACC offers open admission to its programs. Programs offered include business management, communications technology, computer and information sciences, education, engineering technology, family and consumer sciences, health professions, liberal arts, precision production and security services.

Founded in 1867, Truman State University is ranked 2nd in the Princeton Review of Top 10 Public "Best Value" Colleges as well as 8th in the Midwest region out of all public and private colleges by the U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges" in 2010, according to the Truman State University website. The school is the only public liberal arts college in Missouri. Schools of studies that Truman State offers include arts and letters, business, health sciences and education, science and mathematics and social and cultural studies. Students attending Truman State have opportunities for internships through the Washington Center in D.C.; placement sites include Congress, museums, non-profit organizations and media groups.

Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine was founded in 1892, and is part of the A.T. Still University network of health care institutions located in Missouri, Arizona and online. According to their website, KCOM's goal is to prepare osteopathic physicians for work in the field involving primary care and specialist training. Programs that KCOM offers are Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Biomedical Sciences. Situated on a 60-acre campus, KCOM is consistently ranked as one of the nation's best medical colleges by the U.S. News and World Report.
