The University of Missouri is the largest university in Missouri, with an annual enrollment of over 32,000 students. Columbia College was originally established as Christian Female College in 1851. Today, more than 1,200 students attend day classes and 3,000 students attend night classes at the Columbia College campus in Columbia, Missouri. Additionally, another 10,000 students attend one of Columbia College's 34 other campuses, including campuses dedicated to active military personnel. Columbia College offers more than 30 associates and bachelor's degrees in a variety of programs, including business administration, education and criminal justice.
Stephens College, located in downtown Columbia, is the second oldest women's college in the United States that is still a women's college. The theater program at Stephens College has been ranked as the second-best theater program in the United States. In addition to its fine arts program, Stephens College offers more than 40 majors, including business, English and biology, in which students can obtain a bachelor or associate degree.
The Moberly Area Community College serves about 5,000 students in northeastern Missouri. The Boone County Campus of the Moberly Area Community College is located in downtown Columbia at the Parkade Center. The Columbia Campus of Moberly Area Community College offers classes in a variety of programs. Additionally, the associate of arts in teaching program, as well as the associate of applied science in computer information technology and early childhood development programs are located at the Columbia Campus.
