Accounting school programs offer bachelor's degrees and shorter programs for those looking to develop skills and enhance their careers.
  1. Queen's School of Business

    • Queen's School of Business offers a Bachelor of Commerce degree that covers accounting topics in financial and management accounting, auditing and income taxation. U.S. News ranked this degree program in the top 25 of the world in its 2005 survey. Students can continue their education with the 12-week graduate diploma in advanced accounting.

    Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology

    • The Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology offers 10 different full-time accounting plans of study. The one-year Accounting Techniques diploma trains students for work as bookkeepers, employees in accounts payable or receivable departments and administrative assistants. Two-year certificate programs include Accounting and Payroll, which results in a Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (PCP) from the Canadian Payroll Association; Accounting, which prepares students for entry-level accounting work managing mid-size accounting packages with Microsoft Dynamics & Simply Accounting; and Financial Services-Client Services, which prepares graduates for careers in client services in the investment, insurance and banking fields. Graduates qualify to register for a mutual funds license.

      The college has two three-year advanced certificates in Accounting and Finance, a program recognized by the Certified General Accountants of Ontario. Business Administration: Accounting & Financial Planning graduates will work with the baby boomer generation as accountants with expertise in financial planning.

      A bachelor's degree in International Accounting and Finance satisfies requirements to obtain the certified accountant (CA) and certified general accountant (CGA) designations. Eight-month graduate programs include Accounting and Information Technology, a fast-track program for the CGA designation, and Professional Accounting Practice, which serves the needs of non-accountants who plan to change careers and pursue the CGA designation. The school designed the Fraud Examination and Forensic Accounting curriculum for working accountants who want to add a specialty to their qualifications.

    University of Waterloo

    • Students in the University of Waterloo School of Accounting and Finance have the opportunity to earn an accounting and financial management (AFM) or computing and financial management (CFM) degree at the undergraduate level. The school offers master's degree programs in accountancy, taxation or quantitative finance up to a PhD in accounting. Chartered accountants can earn the CA·IT designation when taking one of the two Information technology certificate programs in information system assurance (IST) or business information technology (BIT). The college awards the Deloitte Tax Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to up to eight students annually in the fall.
