Established in 1958, this autonomic engineering and technology school has a total of 14 academic departments to choose from. According to an IIT Bombay brochure, the school is "recognized worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research." Within the span of five decades, IIT Bombay has graduated more than 34,000 engineers and scientists. Degree programs at IIT Bombay include aerospace engineering which was established in 1967, chemical engineering, established in 1958 and civil engineering, established in 1958 and "recognized as one of the major engineering departments in the country." The school is situated in the northern suburbs of Mumbai in Western India. Students are accommodated in 13 hostels with amenities for sports and in-house dining.
